Our journey so far...
The Myakka story begins in 1999, in picturesque Somerset with Georgie, Simon, a small but willing team and a puppy called Floe. Our sights were set on offering the best quality, affordable, fair trade furniture, so we began adventuring to India in search of our own direct suppliers.
Myakka is now in her teens and has truly blossomed, still youthful, yet with a wealth of experience in the real workings of international fair trade and forest care. We’re still based in our beloved old warehouse though we have treated ourselves to bright new offices upstairs.
It's still Georgie and Simon at the helm and Dave, our ridiculously loving German Short-haired Pointer, has taken over from Floe in the noble art of keeping the office stress free, by bouncing around looking for a cuddle.
We now source all our beautiful furniture and home accessory products from a harmonious band of skilled craftspeople and dedicated manufacturers, and have built solid relationships with them all, over many years of loyalty and trust.
Our Wincanton Outlet in Somerset displays our complete range, including fair trade furniture, colourful kilims and cushions, gorgeous lighting and inspiring gifts. Open 7 days a week, it's a great opportunity to see and touch our fabulous furniture.
Myakka offers you a way to furnish your home that’s truly unique. Full of warmth and personality, our exclusive hardwood furniture collections are designed by us and handmade by expert craftspeople to combine exceptional quality, outstanding value and the kind of one-off charm that’s rare in today’s mass-produced world.
As far away from 'throwaway' as it’s possible to get, Myakka furniture is made to the highest standards using kiln-dried woods for a long and beautiful life. Most items are delivered fully assembled, and all come with our promise of outstanding service with a personal touch - whether you shop online, over the phone or in our Warehouse Outlet.
We're a business that’s all about people and the environment. Since 1999, fair trade has been at the heart of everything we do - from the suppliers we’ve built partnerships with, to the communities we’re part of. All our wood is sustainable and we’re proud to be a BAFTS member since 2006 and holder of the Ethical Award since 2009.
